Hadith 1169 - Bab 212 (Excellence of Standing in Prayer at Night)

Ibn 'Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet (Peace be upon him) performed the night prayer in pairs (i.e., Rak'ah) and made it odd number by observing one Rak'ah (as Witr).

Selon lui encore, le Prophète (bsdl) priait la nuit en faisant des unités de prière deux par deux. Il clôturait le tout par une seule unité de prière. (ura)

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) used to leave off observing Saum (fasting) during a month until we thought that he would not observe Saum at all during it; and (sometimes) he would observe Saum till we began to think that he would not omit any day of that month. If one wished to see him performing Salat during the night, he could do that; and if one wished to see him sleeping at night, he could do that.

Anas (das) a dit: «Le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) mangeait durant des journées du mois au point que nous pensions qu"il n"en jeûnait aucun et jeûnait certains jours du mois au point que nous croyions qu"il ne mangeait durant aucun d"eux. A n"importe quelle heure de la nuit où tu désires le voir en prière, tu l"y vois effectivement et à n"importe quelle heure tu désires le voir endormi, tu le vois endormi». (Rapporté par Al Boukhâri)

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) used to perform eleven Rak'ah (of Tahajjud) prayers at night. He (Peace be upon him) would prostrate so long as one of you might recite fifty Ayat (of the Qur'an). Thereafter, he would perform two Rak'ah before Fajr prayers and would lie down on his right side till the Mu'adhdhin would come and inform him about the time of (Fajr) prayer.

"Àisha (das) a dit: «Le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) faisait onze unités de prière (de nuit). Il restait en prosternation le temps que met l"un de vous à réciter cinquante versets (environ un quart d"heure) avant de relever la tête. Il faisait deux unités de prière avant la prière du Fajr (l"aube). Puis il se couchait sur le côté droit jusqu"à ce que le Muezzin vînt l"appeler à la prière». (Rapporté par Al Boukhâri)

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) did not observe more than eleven Rak'ah (of Tahajjud prayers), be in Ramadan or any other month. First of all he would perform four Rak'ah. Ask not about their excellence and their length. He (Peace be upon him) would then perform four more Rak'ah; and do not ask about their excellence and their length. Then he would perform three Rak'ah (Witr prayer). ('Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) added) I submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Do you sleep before performing the Witr prayer?" He (Peace be upon him) said, "O 'Aishah! My eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep."

Elle a dit aussi: «Le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) ne faisait jamais, que ce fût au mois de Ramadan ou autre, plus de onze unités de prière. Il en faisait ainsi quatre et tu ne peux pas savoir combien elles étaient belles et longues. Puis il en faisait quatre autres et tu ne peux pas savoir combien elles étaient belles et longues. Puis il faisait trois unités de prières. Je lui dis une fois: «O Messager de Dieu! Tu t"endors avant d"avoir clôturé par une seule unité de prière?» Il dit: «O "Àisha! Mes yeux s"endorment mais mon cœur ne dort pas».

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet (Peace be upon him) would sleep during the early part of night and stand in Salat during the latter part.

Selon elle encore, Le Prophète (bsdl) s"endormait au début de la nuit pour se réveiller et prier à sa fin. (ura)

Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: One night I joined the Prophet (Peace be upon him) in his (optional) Salat. He (Peace be upon him) prolonged the Qiyam (standing) so much that I made up my mind to commit an act of wrong. He was questioned: "What did you intend to do?" He replied: "I intended to sit down and stop following him (in Salat)."

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Ibn Mas"ùd (das) a dit: «J"ai prié une nuit avec le Prophète (bsdl). Il n"a pas cessé de rester debout jusqu"à ce que j"aie failli commettre une mauvaise action». On lui dit: «Qu"as-tu failli faire?» Il dit: «J"ai failli m"asseoir et le laisser seul dans sa station debout».

Hudhaifah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I performed Salat with the Prophet (Peace be upon him) one night, and he started reciting Surat Al- Baqarah. I thought that he would go in Ruku' (bowing posture in Salat) at the end of one hundred Ayat, but he continued (reciting); and I thought that he would perhaps recite (this Surah) in the whole Rak'ah (prayer), but he continued the recitation; I thought he would perhaps bow on completing (this Surah). He (Peace be upon him) then started reciting Surat An-Nisa' which he followed with Surat Al-Imran. He recited leisurely. When he recited an Ayah which mentioned the tasbeeh, he would say Subhan Allah and when he recited the Ayah which tells how the Rubb is to be asked, the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) would then ask from Him; and when he (Peace be upon him) recited an Ayah asking one to seek Protection Allah, he would seek Protection of Allah. Then he bowed and said, "Subhana Rabbiyal-Azim (My Rubb the Great is free from imperfection)"; his bowing lasted about the same length of time as his standing, (and then on returning to the standing posture after Ruku') he would say, "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana lakal-hamd (Allah listens to him who praises Him. Praise be to You, Our Rubb!)," and he would then stand about the same length of time as he had spent in bowing. He would then prostrate himself and say, "Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la (My Rubb the Supreme is free from imperfection)," and his prostration lasted nearly the same length of time as his standing (Qiyam).

[Muslim].

Houdheyfa (das) a dit: «J"ai prié une nuit avec le Prophète (bsdl). Il débuta la lecture par le chapitre «La vache». Je me suis dit: «II va sans doute se courber au verset cent». Mais il poursuivit sa récitation et je me suis dit: «II va le lire en entier dans une unité de prière. Il poursuivit et je me suis dit: «II va se courber à sa fin». Mais il enchaîna avec le chapitre «Les femmes» puis celui de «La famille de "Tmràn». Il récitait pourtant en bien articulant tous les mots. Quand il passait par un verset contenant une glorification de Dieu, il Le glorifiait. Quand il passait par un verset contenant une invocation de Dieu, il L"invoquait. Quand le verset contenait une demande de la protection de Dieu contre le Diable, il la faisait. Puis il se courba et se mit à dire: «Gloire et pureté à mon Seigneur Le Très-Grand!» Sa position courbée était presque aussi longue que sa position debout. Puis il dit: «Que Dieu entende celui qui L"a loué! Notre Seigneur! A Toi la louange». Puis il se redressa et resta aussi longtemps que lors de sa position courbée. Puis il se prosterna et dit: «Gloire et pureté à mon Seigneur Le Plus Haut!» Sa prosternation dura autant que sa station debout». (Rapporté par Moslem)

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) was asked: "Which Salat is the best?" He replied, " The best Salat is that in which Qiyam (the duration of standing) is longer."

[Muslim].

Selon Jàber (das), on demanda au Messager de Dieu (bsdl) quelle était la meilleure prière. Il dit: «Celle où l"on prolonge la station debout». (Rapporté par Moslem)

'Abdullah bin 'Amr (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "The Salat which is dearest to Allah is that of (Prophet) Dawud; and As-Saum (the fasting) which is dearest to Allah is that of (Prophet) Dawud. He used to sleep half the night, get up to perform Salat for one-third of it, then sleep through the remaining one-sixth of it; and he used to observe Saum on alternative days."

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Selon "Abdullàh Ibn "Amr Ibn Al "As (das), le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) a dit: «La meilleure prière pour Dieu est celle de David et le meilleur jeûne pour Dieu est celui de David. Il dormait la moitié de la nuit, en veillait le tiers à prier, puis dormait le sixième restant. Il jeûnait un jour et mangeait un jour».

Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) saying, "Every night there is a special time during which whatever a Muslim asks Allah of any good relating to this life or the Hereafter, it will be granted to him; and this moment comes every night."

[Muslim].

Jàber (das) a dit: «J"ai entendu le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) dire: «II y a au cours de la nuit une heure spéciale. S"il arrive qu"un Musulman y demande à Dieu exalté une bonne chose concernant ce monde ou l"autre. Dieu la lui donne aussitôt, et ce toutes les nuits». (Rapporté par Moslem)
