Hadith 1082 - Bab 194 (The Excellence of Standing in the First Row (In Salat))
Chapter 9 (The Book of Virtues)

Jabir bin Samurah (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) came out to us (once) and said, "Why do you not stand in rows as the angels do before their Rubb?" We asked: "O Messenger of Allah! how do the angels stand in rows before their Rubb?" He (Peace be upon him) replied, "They complete each row beginning with the first and filling all the gaps."

Jâber Ibn Samoura (das) rapporte: «Le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) sortit à nous un jour et nous dit: «Pourquoi ne formez-vous pas des rangs bien droits comme s"alignent les Anges devant leur Seigneur?» Nous dîmes: «Comment s"alignent les Anges devant leur Seigneur?» Il dit: «Ils complètent au fur et à mesure les rangs en commençant par le premier et se tiennent serrés les uns aux autres». Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "If people came to know the blessing of calling Adhan and the standing in the first row, they could do nothing but would draw lots to secure these privileges."

Selon Abou Hourayra (das), le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) a dit: «Si les gens savaient quel mérite il y a à arriver à la mosquée au premier appel du Muezzin et à y occuper le premier rang, ils s"y départageraient au besoin par le tirage au sort».

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "The best of the men's rows (in Salat) is the first row and the worst is the last; but the best of the woman's row is the last and the worst of their rows is the first."

Toujours selon lui, le Messager Dieu (bsdl) a dit: «Parmi les rangs des hommes, le meilleur est le premier et le plus mauvais est le dernier. Parmi les rangs des femmes, le meilleur est le dernier et le plus mauvais est le premier». (Rapporté par Moslem)

Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) perceived a tendency among his Companions to stand in the back rows, he said to them, "Come forward and be close to me and let those who come after you, follow your lead. If people continue to fall behind (i.e., in acquiring virtues), Allah puts them behind."

[Muslim].

Selon Abou Sa"id Al Khoudri (das), le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) remarqua chez ses Compagnons une certaine tendance à rester à l"arrière. Il leur dit: «Avancez vers les premiers rangs afin de prier juste derrière moi et que ceux que vous précédez prient derrière vous. Quand des gens ne cessent pas de rester à l"arrière, Dieu finit par les condamner au dernier rang (de la société)». (Rapporté par Moslem)

Abu Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) used to gently pat our shoulders when we were standing in rows at the time of Salat and say, "Keep (the rows) straight; do not differ from each other lest your hearts should suffer from discord. Let those of you who are mature and prudent be nearer to me, and then those who are next to them."

[Muslim].

Selon Ibn Mas"ùd (das), le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) passait sa main sur nos épaules avant la prière en nous disant: «Rectifiez l"alignement de vos rangs et ne soyez pas dans des positions diverses sinon vos cœurs ne seraient plus sur une même position. Que viennent juste derrière moi ceux d"entre vous qui ont le plus de sagesse et de raison, puis ceux qui leur sont inférieurs et ainsi de suite». (Rapporté par Moslem)

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "Keep your rows straight (during Salat in congregation), for keeping the rows straight is part of the perfection of Salat."

Selon Anas (das), le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) a dit: «Rectifiez l"alignement de vos rangs car la rectification des rangs contribue à parfaire la prière», (ura)

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Iqamah had been announced, the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) turned his face towards us and said: "Make your rows straight and stand close together, for I can see you from behind my back."

[Al- Bukhari].

Toujours selon lui: «On lança le deuxième appel à la prière et, à ce moment, le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) tourna vers nous son visage et dit: «Rectifiez 1" alignement de vos rangs et serrez-vous les uns aux autres car je vous vois de derrière mon dos». (Rapporté par Moslem et Al Boukhàri)

An-Nu'man bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) saying, "Straighten your rows; otherwise, Allah will create dissension among you."

[Al- Bukhari and Muslim].

The narration in Muslim is: An-Nu'man bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) directed us to keep our rows as straight as arrows. He continued stressing this until he realized that we had learnt it from him (recognized its significance). One day he came into the mosque and stood up. He was just about to say Takbir (Allah is Greater) when he noticed a man whose chest was projected from the row, so he said, "O slaves of Allah, you must straighten your rows or Allah will certainly put your faces in opposite directions."

Annou"màn Ibn Bashir (das) a dit: «J"ai entendu le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) dire: «Rectifiez soigneusement l"alignement de vos rangs sinon Dieu mettrait certainement de la discorde dans vos orientations».

Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) used to pass between the rows from one end to the other, touching our chest and shoulders (i.e., arranging the rows) in line and saying, "Do not be out of line; otherwise your hearts will be in disagreement". He would add, "Allah and His angels invoke blessings upon the first rows."

[Abu Dawud].

Al Barâ Ibn "Âzeb (das), a dit: «Le Messager de Dieu (bsdl) rectifiait l"alignement des prieurs d"un bout à l"autre du rang. Il poussait de sa main nos poitrines et nos épaules en nous disant: «Ne soyez pas dans des positions diverses sinon vos cœurs y seraient». Il disait aussi: «Dieu et les Anges bénissent les premiers rangs». (Rapporté par Abou Dawûd)
